Text-to-speech narration helps learners listen to the text in a module instead of only reading it. This can be helpful for users who are busy, on-the-go, or have visual impairments. In the Content Creator, you can choose which voice should be used for a module's narration and preview how it sounds before users hear it.
When to use it
Use text-to-speech narration when users may benefit from hearing module content read aloud. For example, it can support accessibility, help users follow content in a different way, or make text-heavy modules easier to consume.
How to use the text-to-speech feature
Open the learning module that you want to enable text-to-speech on
Navigate to settings -> general and toggle Immersive reader on
How to choose a narration voice
Open the module in Content Creator.
Go to the module settings.
Find the narration voice setting below the Immersive Reader setting.
Choose either Female or Male.
Save the module settings.
Use preview to listen to the narration before users hear it.
The selected voice is saved as part of the module settings and is used for the module's text-to-speech narration.
Benefits of using the text-to-speech feature
Users can listen to modules while they are doing other things, such as working, commuting, or exercising.
Users can focus on the content of the modules instead of having to worry about reading the text.
Users with visual impairments can access the modules.
What users will see
A small "listen/audio" icon next to the text.
When the user clicks on the icon, the text will be read aloud.
Good things to know
Female is the default voice for modules unless another voice is selected.
Previewing narration while editing is temporary. It lets you check how the content sounds without replacing the final learner audio.
Publishing a module does not automatically generate all final narration audio. Audio is generated when it is needed and then reused for future playback.
If the published text or selected voice changes, the existing narration audio is treated as outdated and will be refreshed the next time narration is used.
HTML formatting and attributes are not read aloud. Users hear the visible text content.
