How the scores are calculated in modules

How is the scores calculated from the different interactions in modulemaker.

When the learners complete modules, they, in some cases, also get a score. For example, in the dashboard, users can see their own average score compared to the department, job profile, and organisation’s overall score. It is also possible for the admin to define a passing score for each module in the learning path settings. The scores are also available in the reporting. This article explains how these scores are calculated.

Some of the interactions (Match Category, Fill in the blanks, and Hotspot) have an extra setting where the scoring can be disabled/enabled. The other interactions are always scorable. Scorable interactions work best for the purpose of testing someone's knowledge, whereas the non-scorable ones work more as a way to make the learner think and explore options.

  • Survey: always 100% regardless of slide types or how the learner answers.

  • Lesson: always 100% as there are no interactions on these slides.

  • Quiz: The result of the module is always the average of interaction slides. Note: the interaction slides, where scoring is disabled, will behave the same as any content slides, and they do not impact the overall score if the module contains any interactions where scoring is enabled. If the module only contains Match Category, Fill in the blanks or Hotspot with scoring disabled, and any content slides, the result is always 100%

  • Calculations on each interaction:

    • Single choice: the learner gets 0% or 100 % depending on whether the answer is correct or not.

    • Multiple choice: the learner gets 0% if any of the wrong answers are chosen or the right ones are not chosen. If all is correct, the learner gets 100%.

    • Match Category

      • Scoring disabled: the learner will have to complete this with all answers correct, so they will always score 100%.

      • Scoring enabled: the learner gets 0% if any of the choices are in the incorrect place. If all is correct, the learner gets 100%.

    • Fill in the blanks

      • Scoring disabled: the learner will have to complete this with all answers correct, so they will always score 100%.

      • Scoring enabled: the learner gets 0% if any of the choices are in the incorrect place. If all is correct, the learner gets 100%.

    • Hotspot

      • Scoring disabled: The learner will have to find all the hotspots, so they will always score 100%.

      • Scoring enabled: the learner gets 0% if they have not found all the spots or if they have found any wrong spots. If they only find all the correct spots, they get 100%.

    • Sequence: the learner gets 0% if any of the choices are in an incorrect order. If all is correct, the learner gets 100%.

    • Written answer: the written answer will always score 100% when accepted and 0% when waiting for attention or declined.
