Why use a learning path?

A learning path divides a topic into several sub-topics, creating a more engaging and flexible learning experience! For example, Internet Security is a topic consisting of sub-topics such as Strong Password, Avoid Scam Emails, and How to Safely use Public Wi-fi.

Learning paths can be thought of as similar to books, with modules as the chapters! The learning path is the overall topic, with the modules providing the content.

Besides having the possibility of grouping several modules, you are also able to customise the learning path itself. This is done by creating a title, adding a description, and choosing a cover image that describes the topic of the learning path. Let's dive further into that!

How to use a learning path?

As mentioned in the short introduction, there are many different ways to customise your learning path to make sure it targets and engages your users while providing them with relevant learning content.

Title

Choose a short and informative title. Besides providing users with an overall sense of the topic, admins can use it to find learning paths through the search function. So, when creating a title, use keywords highly relatable to the overall topic! ๐Ÿ—๏ธ

Cover image

Together with the title, the cover image is the first thing users will see. Cover images have a standard 16:9 aspect ratio. Other aspect ratios are accepted, but using the standard for the best visual experience is advisable. Along with using the standard 16:9 aspect ratio, it is advised to upload an image with at least 1200 x 675 pixels.

If you want only to use a specific part of the image you uploaded, you can drag to move the image and scroll to zoom in - this way, you can select the most relevant part. ๐Ÿ–ผ๏ธ

Description

This feature is optional and allows you to create a brief introduction to the learning path. You can use it to give the user some context about the overall topic and what to expect throughout the learning.

It can also be helpful to utilise this feature when you are more than one content creator on the platform. This way, everyone is informed about the contents! ๐Ÿง

How modules are related to the learning path

Before deep diving into making great new learning paths, it is important that you have finished some modules that you can include in the learning path.

Search and add modules

Adding modules to your learning path can be done by searching for them by their name in the search bar beneath the title. Modules are then added by simply clicking on them.

You don't need to worry about adding them in the intended order; you can always rearrange them afterwards by dragging them around.

If you need a more advanced view of all the modules, you can select the 'Open advanced search' feature; here, you will get an overview of module names, tags, and types. In it, you can select multiple modules at once and use the two filtering options - tags and module types. You can use the filters by clicking them, which opens up a drop-down menu.

Complete in order or not

If you want users to follow the same flow you created in the learning path editor, you can do so by activating the 'Modules must be completed in order' feature right between the title and the search bar.

At least two modules need to be selected to use this feature, and if not enabled, users can take the modules in any order they'd like.

To simplify how the 'complete in order' function works, it is impossible to lock specific modules.
